This is an antique Steuben blue Aurene art glass bowl from the Frederick Carder era at Corning, New York. It has a squat, rounded form with a smooth incurved rim, and the iridescence covers both the inside and outside. The inside is especially striking, with flashes of cobalt, sapphire, violet, teal, and gold that change as the light moves across the bowl. The outside has a softer satin sheen in blue-green with gold highlights, and the shoulder turns lavender and purple near the base.

Carder co-founded Steuben in 1903 and developed Aurene soon after. Blue Aurene was one of the company’s most popular and highly regarded finishes, and it is still one of the most collectible types of early 20th-century American art glass.

Marks: The base is signed “Aurene” and inscribed with shape number 2687. It has a polished pontil with iridescence inside the pontil ring.

Dimensions: Approx. 7.5" diameter x 4" high
