A set of three champagne glasses in René Lalique's celebrated "Strasbourg" pattern, an Art Deco design from 1926 and one of Lalique's most recognizable stemware services.
Each glass has a wide, conical bowl of clear mold-blown glass set on a flat, mold-pressed stem. The stem shows two nude male figures in frosted relief, arms crossed around a central column as they tread grapes on a bed of flowers. The frosted figures stand out against the clear glass, and the stem rises from a round, applied foot.
The Strasbourg pattern pays tribute to the Alsace region, home to Lalique's Wingen-sur-Moder glassworks, and to its winemaking tradition. These coupes are a fine example of Lalique's skill in bringing sculpture to everyday tableware. They are as suited to the display cabinet as to a celebratory toast.
