A striking decorative motif by René Lalique depicting a large fish rendered in clear and frosted molded-pressed glass, its body finely detailed with sculpted scales, gills, and sweeping fins that catch and refract light from every angle. The piece is mounted on its original patinated bronze base decorated with a band of stylized, repeating waves (vagues) — the source of the model's name. "Gros Poisson" is French for "big fish," and the waves refer to the stylized waves decoration of the illuminated bronze base on which this model was originally marketed. Designed by René Lalique and introduced circa 1922, executed in white (colorless) molded-pressed glass, the statuette stands approximately 31 cm (about 12 inches) high. The base was conceived to be illuminated from within, casting light up through the glass so the fish appears to swim above a moving sea. It is signed "R. Lalique." The model is referenced as no. 1100 in Félix Marcilhac's catalogue raisonné, René Lalique. Needs rewired , small crack to underside of base not visible when assembled
