Monumental Tiffany Studios Wheel-Carved Favrile Glass Vase, Signed Louis C. Tiffany, No. 20N, Circa 1914–15, 15.5 Inches

A spectacular and rare example of Tiffany Studios' most labor-intensive decorative technique, this monumental Favrile glass vase stands an impressive 15.5 inches tall and is engraved on the base 20 N Louis C. Tiffany in the artist's own hand.

The elongated form features a gently flared foot, tapered body, and softly collared rim — a refined silhouette that beautifully showcases the dramatic wheel-carved floral decoration cascading across the shoulder. Large blossoms in luminous white and powder blue, with richly modeled green leaves and sinuous stems, are carved in relief through layers of cased glass against the breathtaking gold iridescent Favrile ground, which shimmers from amber to green depending on the light.

Wheel-carving was among the most demanding techniques employed at the Corona furnaces, reserved for the Studios' finest exhibition-quality pieces. The personal "Louis C. Tiffany" signature — as opposed to the standard "Tiffany Studios" mark — indicates this was considered a special or exceptional work.
