A striking large mid-century modern ceramic vase designed by Georges Briard (Jascha Brojdo, 1917–2005) for Hyalyn Pottery, USA, circa 1960s.

The tall ovoid form is finished in a soft matte black ground, against which a bold decorative motif is incised into the clay and inlaid with lustrous 22-karat gold — a winged angel figure surrounded by a stylized sunflower, leaves, and ferns, rendered in Briard's distinctive folk-modern graphic style. The contrast of warm gold against the dark matte body is pure Hollywood Regency glamour and exemplifies the elevated, art-forward housewares that made Briard one of the most collected American designers of the era.

Signed "Georges Briard" in gold on the front. The underside bears the impressed Hyalyn oval maker's mark and "USA."
