A tall, graceful Cluthra art glass vase by Victor Durand Jr.'s Vineland Flint Glass Works of Vineland, New Jersey, made during the company's art glass period in the late 1920s.
The vase has a bulbous lower body rising to a long, slender neck with a gently flared rim, on a clear applied foot. It is made in the Cluthra technique, where colored glass powders and trapped air bubbles are worked into the glass. The result is a soft, cloud-like pattern, here in warm coral and rose swirling through a milky white ground. The color is strongest in the body and lightens toward the rim. The effect changes with the light, and its height gives it real presence on a mantel or console.
Durand art glass was made for only a few years before Victor Durand's death in 1931 ended production. Today it is prized by collectors of American art glass alongside Steuben and Tiffany.
